Golden Fulla now at Russley Stud

By

G. K. YULE

Golden Fulla, the first son of Fulla Napoleon to come to New Zealand, has joined Honkin Andy at Mr Bill Denton’s Russley Lodge Stud, Tai Tapu.

Golden Fulla, an eight-year-old, was the champion New York two-year-old of his season and altogether he won $405,972, taking a racord of Imin 58.4 s on a halfmile track. He was also placed in a race won in imin 555.

Golden Fulla raced until the end of his six-year-old season, but was then left in limbo for more than 12 months while a dispute among his nine owners was resolved. He was then secured by Mr John Bagshaw, of Sydney, who arranged with Mr Denton to stand him on his property. Golden Fulla, a horse of good bone and temperament, was of particular interest to Mr Denton as his second dam, Traffic Lady,, which took a record of 2min 1.4 s at three years, was a threequarter sister to Garrison Hanover, the highly-success-ful stallion located at Russley Lodge Stud until his retirement last year. Almost all of Golden Fulla’s racing was done on half-mile tracks in New

York state and he was highly successful at Roosevelt and Yonkers Raceway where he was a consistent free-for-all and invitational performer. Handle With Care, Tarport Hap, and Warm Breeze were among the topliners he defeated. Fulla Napoleon was _ a champion racehorse, winning $582,279. The son of Dale Frost took records of Imin 58s at two and Imin 57.2 s at three. He has been a most successful sire, with Momentum, which took a record of Imin 54.2 s at three, his fastest runner. Last season Fulla Napoleon was fourteenth on the sires’ li§t in the United States with winnings of $2,024,218 to the credit of his progeny. He was tenth on the list of sires of two and three-year-olds with $1,029,087, 71 of his 128 runners of those ages winning 194 races. Golden Fulla is out of Freight Time, a half-sister to Trampus Hanover, Imin 58.2 s at two, and to Jef’s

Malpractice, Imin 58.8 s at three. He is a half-brother to We Do Romeo, a pacer with a record of Imin 58.25. Freight Time was got by Torpid from Traffic Lady, a daughter of Tar Heel. Traffic Lady has left 11 winners from 15 foals. Golden Fulla was accompanied to New Zealand by Armbro Waac, a yearling filly by Armbro Nesbit from Armbro Nonie, by Tar Heel from a mare by Adios. Armbro Nonie took a record of 2min 0.25, while the filly’s second dam was a 2min performer. Armbro Waac, which, cost $26,000 at auction, has joined Sam Ballantyne’s team at Prebbleton. She is at present being broken and gaited and will be raced in New Zealand before being retired to the stud. A well-grown April foal, Armbro Waac will be a two-year-old to New Zealand time on August 1 next,, placing her at a big disadvantage with foals born in October.
