Woman stole from car
A young woman who admitted stealing property to a total value of $4409 from a parked car was convicted and remanded to April 29 for a probation report and sentence when she appeared before Judge Palmer in the District Court yesterday. Robyn Denise Farmer, unemployed, aged 18, admitted the offences which took place on February 12.
She was allowed bail of $lOOO with an approved surety of the same amount. Items stolen included travelling bags, men’s and women’s clothing, cash, travellers’ cheques and photographic equipment. They belonged to Robert Clarke-Hall and his wife, and Alan De Klee.
Sergeant R. H. Prouting said that Mr and Mrs ClarkHall had stored their property—amounting in value to $2729 —in a parked car in Salisbury Street. They were about to leave for a honeymoon overseas, which because of the theft had to be postponed.
Also stored in the same car, was property to a total value ,of $l6BO, belonging to Richard Alan De Klee, who was on holiday in New Zealand from Scotland.
Sergeant Prouting said the defendant, who at the time was living with a male friend in a Kilmore Street flat, had
•gone with him to a hamburiger bar in Cathedral Square. I On their way back they passed the car. containing the property, which was found to be unlocked. Attempts were being made [to locate the alleged co-of-Ifender. . i In explanation Farmer had told the police that the idea of stealing the property had come from her flat mate. The next day the firm went back to the address to find no-one at home and the set gone. Using the same technique the defendant went to John Lane, Ltd, and obtained the other television set. When a representative of the firm called at the address later the television set was not there. Wakefield when spoken to by the police said both sets [had been sold the day after I they were obtained, but not by her. I The defendant said she [gained nothing from the offence.
