The Branch has approximately 4500 members employed throughout the Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson and Westland Industrial Districts. It is one of three branches of the New Zealand Labourers’ Union which has a membership in excess of 14,000. ; The Branch has a full time staff of eight, four of whom are directly involved in attending to : industrial matters, and the remainder concerned with the general administration and membership requirements. The Branch provides services for the Union s Head Office and staff are involved in this area from time to time. Therefore, the Branch, in endeavouring to fill the vacancy, is looking for a person with the necessary knowledge and experience in trade union administration and in the industrial arena who can readily step into this position with minimal training. Under the Union’s Registered Rules the Branch Secretary is appointed by the Branch Committee after the vacancy has been advertised.
