Sites to be preserved
PA Whakatane Two pa sites recently • discovered in Whakatane will be preserved in a reserve, according to a spokesman for the affores- • tation company, P, :F. Olsen, Ltd. •The pa sites were discovered by a tramper walking on Maori land, and were reported to the Bay of Plenty representative of the Historic Places Trust. The pas were in an' area of bush designated for burn-off next summer and the Historic Places Trust asked the company to preserve the sites and include them in any development . plans for the area. .A spokesman said the 1 company proposed to in.clude the pa' sites in the reserve next summer. Olsens would probably allow wildlife officers into the forest to capture kiwis, a large number of which had been seen in the area, he said. 1
