PA Wellington I The Nature Conservation !Council will not oppose the (extension to the aluminium (smelter at Tiwai Point by the proposed additional potiline, said the council’s chair•man (Dr Carolyn Burns) (yesterday. Dr Burns said the council was fully aware that the site ,at Tiwai was an ideal one for such an industry and the installation of the additional . potline was originally envisaged in any case. “The council understands that the company has foregone its right to have Lake Manapouri raised and, therefore, virtually supports the present proposal providing that Lake Manapouri is not raised to gain any further I power,” Dr Burns said.
