Alliance exports a record in March
PA Dunedin Alliance Textiles, Ltd, passed a milestone in March when it exported more than SIM. worth of goods in a month for the first time. Exports for the first six months of the 1979-80 year rose to $3,737,000, Which was 25.6 per cent of the. $14.6M total sales value. The managing director (Mr Farquhar McKenzie) expects the ratio to be maintained for the full year. In the 12 months to last June 30 exports of $5,404,000 were 19.8 per
cent of the $27.4M total sales. “We are confident that exports will exceed $8 million this year. Our export marketing team is highly encouraged by this record result,” says Mr McKenzie. The March export record has a dark side to it, which demonstrates the handicap that the South Island labours under, compared with the North Island. Get-, ting ships to call — and on time — in the South Island, especially below Lyttelton, is like asking for a tax cut “We were fortunate in March,” says Mr McKenzie.“There were more vessels
available than usual. Not only did this enable us to clear the backlog of export cargo, but we were also able to ship all our March commitments,” he says. Delivery dates are expected by the clients to be faithfully kept, and shipping a month’s commitments means a lot to Alliance, and to others. “If a customer doesn’t get the shipment he was expecting in February he may tell you he doesn’t want a double lot in March. If he doesn’t want it you don’t get paid,” says Mr McKenzie.
