Hints of autumn from the Wool Board This could quite possibly be the most elegant winter ever. With a long-awaited swing back to feminine fashion, this winter's fashions aim to make women feel and look like women — and to let men enjoy it! The emphasis is on elegance and the figure is important. Women's suits are a very important fashion story this winter and reflect all the current trends. Garments tend towards the silhouette, with tailoring picking up the key points. Shoulders are interesting and often squared. The waist is well-defined, sometimes by cut and sometimes by a belt. Hips are rounded. Jackets are shaped, some with jacket tails or hems rounded over the hips, and worn over elegant slit skirts. The new classic matched suits are worn with straight skirts — sometimes slit for walking-ease — or sometimes the pleated skirt — which gives ease of movement but still follows the slim silhouette. Accessories are important — cheeky perched hats, gloves, high-heeled court shoes, ankle boots and textured tights. New Zealand manufacturers, through their immaculate tailoring, treat the broadshouldered and tapered-skirt look for 1980 with ease, presenting styles which avoid undue exaggeration but reflect the look of today in a manner you can appreciate and wear comfortably. 1980 fashions are body-conscious, either revealed or concealed. It’s a fashion that lends itself so well to wool, the fabric that gives the precise constructed look without loss of supple handling.
