By letter dated March 25,! 1980, the Minister of Transand Industry has required the Commerce Commission . to inquire, pursuant to Section 82(7) of the Act, : and report to him on the desirability of removing ! from the Positive List of Controlled Goods and Services 1977, the wholesale and retail margins applied to — “Butter, manufactured in New Zealand, except when sold — ia) Ex factory; or Co) In portions not ex-1 ceeding 30g.” (Government has recently '■ removed butter prices at the manufacturing level from Positive List control.) The Minister has asked that the report of the Com- : mission cover in particu- • lar: (a) Whether price control ' in terms of Section 82 ■ of the Act should be 1 continued; or (b) Whether price restraint ; in terms of Section 83 : would be warranted if J price control were re- ! moved; or (c) Such other recommen- : datlons as the Commission thinks fit. ; 3. The Minister has asked ■ that the report b e sent to ' him by September 30, 1980, i but that he would be will- ■ ing to extend that date should the need arise. 4. As a first step, the Commission requests any persons or organiastions who mby wish to apply to be a party to the inquiry, in terms of Section 14, to notify the Executive Officer of the Commission of this in writing by 4 p.m., on Wednesday, May 1, 1980. This notification to give reasons in support of the application and to indicate whether the applicant supports or is opposed to the removal of price control. 5. Tlie Commission proposes to sit, for the purpose of hearing party applications received, on Tuesday, May 6, 1980, commencing at 10.30 a.m., at its office, 6th Floor.
