Leyland sales increase in U.K.

From

KEN COATES

in London British Leyland's cutprice policy and “buy British" campaign seem to be getting results. The giant but ailing car manufacturer’s share of the market in March is expected to be about 22 per cent, after January’s all-time low of 15 per cent. To keep the momentum going, Leyland has reduced the price of all Marinas by 10 per cent from April 1, making the cheapest Marina just over $3OOO. The Marina is scheduled for a facelift this year, and the discounts shcfuld help shift the large stocks. Price-cutting has worked with ageing Maxi — sales have almost trebled since the 10 per cent reduction at the beginning of March. Leyland’s ' main concern is to keep sales of current models moving until the new Metro Mini is introduced in October.
