Chantilly Belle, Elfin, Florlis Frost, and Jovalight were among the most impressive fhree-yearsold fillies to race ‘at the Addington trials yesterday. The fillies are .down to contest [the Metropolitan Breeders’ Stakes at Addington on Tuesday as a lead-up to the $15,000 New Zealand Oaks on Anzac Day when their main rival will be the top-ranked Armalight. Florlis Frost was well back starting the last 1200 m and she came on strongly to win by more than a length from Panair, which shaded Gikama Dee, Shabby Tiger and Townsend. The leaders took 3min 33.3 s for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in Imin 3.35, and the final 400 m in 32.35. Florlis Frost has done little racing this season, but she looks to ba coming back .to form.
1 Chantilly Belle .wen her heat in 3min 32.65, her last 800 m in Imin 2.85, and her last 400 m in 30.85. She started from the second line and came on strongly from mid-field to beat Jovalight quite convincingly. Jovalight, which raced freelegged at a recent trials meeting, wore hopples yesterday and was not extended in the straight. Goldcoast Lady paced a useful race for third, clear of Elfin which finished strongly through the bunch after being near the tail of [the field for the first 1800 m..
Elfin has been plagued by recurring minor leg problems, but' these are behind her now. She lacks hard rac-; ing, but is obviously coming to hand well. Tawhai Blue, a stablemate of Scotch Tar, made no race of the event for C2 and C 3 pacers. - He -won with • ease in
3min 32.75, with the final 400 m in 31.75. He won by a 1 neck from Virginia City, 1 with Danum Girl close by, clear of Regal Cheval, which set the pace and tired a ; shade, and Stop the Clock. i Be Sly, which will contest ] the main event at Addington 1 next Tuesday, shaped like an early winner when he beat i four rivals in the main trial. ■ He took imin 2.2 s for the last 800 m of 2600 m in 3min 29.7 s and did it well. Rosewood Garrison, another which looks to be at' the improving stage, held on for second, ahead of Wests burn Vue and Chance Affair.
Benjie Tara trailed Wally Scott to the straight in the first heat for two-year-olds and sprinted him home to win by a head at the end of a quiet 2000 m in 2min 52.55, with the final 400 m in 29.65. It was an impressive run by the colt by Good Chase from the smart Kintara.
Twilight Mist battled on for third after a slow start, with Beatham next. No Excuse (Out to WinExcuse Me) had too much pace for the others in the second head, winning by a length in 2min 46.7 s with the final 400 m in 30.65. Mirari (Gerry Mir-Some Dream) held on for second after pacemaking, with Espiritu (Tuft-Hello Stranger) next’. El Regale, a big disappointment in the Welcome Stakes last Saturday, was eased back to last early and made up many lengths to finish fourth without being extended.
