Galaxy was ‘just a gallop’ for Yipp’s Secret
By
J. J. BOYLE
“That was just like a gallop for her,” Jim Collett remarked after he rode Yipp’s Secret to an easy win in the $BOOO DB Galaxy Stakes at Riccarton yesterday.
Mr and Mrs Keith Robson’s six-year-old won running away by two lengths and a half for the seventeenth victory of her career and her third D.B. Galaxy success in four attempts.
Next for her will be the $20,000 George Adams Handicap on the final day of the meeting on Saturday. Yipp’s Secret was an evenmoney favourite, but Mr Keith Robson was wondering if he was on a fruitless mis-
sion when he brought her north on the wet day that was Monday. “I thought we should turn around and take her home, but our trainer Rex Cochrane would not have been pleased about that,” Mr Robson said after his home-bred won yesterday. Jim Collett, who has partnered Yipp’s Secret in all of her Galaxy victories, believes the mare, would not have shown the same
mastery of the conditions if she had had to race on the first day of the meeting. “It was a loose track on Monday—today it was puggy, and there were no problems,” Collett said. The Clippie was the best of Yipp’s Secret’s rivals yesterday, by a neck from the Awapuni-trained Save. The Clippie races in the same ownership as The Fantasy, which ran Yipp’s Secret close in the correspond-
ing race at Riccarton a year ago. Yipp’s Secret is by Yipp (son of Dogger Bank) out of , Eila, a winner by Lo Zingaro from Justitia, winner of two races, and dam of Notable, ; winner of four. Hi Magic, after pacemaking, kept battling to the end for fourth. Her Greatest, the second favourite, could not find anything extra on the puggy track and finished fifth.
