Popular Mechanix

The Christchurch rock group, Popular Mechanix, continue to drum up support from the locals. Last Saturday evening the group drew such a crowd that -the doors of the Hillsborough Tavern had to be closed at 9 p.m. two hours before closing time.

Popular Mechanix will play their final public shows in Christchurch at the Hillsborough, next Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. In addition, the band will play several private engagements including a concert at Ashburton College on Thursday, April 17, and a function at the University of Canterbury

Students’ Association the next evening. On April 19 they will depart on their second North Island tour, which the lead vocalist, Dick Driver, expects will take at least three months. Their main base will be Auckland.

With the departure of bands like Toy Love and Citizen Band, and the end of Hello Sailor and Th’ Dudes, Dick Driver sees the North Island tour as a great chance to put the band on the map.
