Sex education in primary schools
Sir, — J am dismayed to see the opinions of R. W. and C. Glue (April 5) display such a typically myopic and neo-Freudian stance. Thanks to Mr Wellington’s courageous refusal to submi t to the demands of the.tren.dy liberals,' New Zealand society may stay a little healthier. We can well manage without another increase in venereal disease, abortions, schoolgirl' mothers, mental illness, sex crimes and a general increase in promiscuity, which increased sex education would bring us. Surely we have enough of a “rat race” as it is without extending a spirit of competition into our very bedrooms. The teenage group is already a prime educator on this, as well as on other destructive activities: why increase the pressure? When will the reaction -against the Victorians, exhaust itself? — Yours, etc., R. MIEDEMA. April 5, 1980.
