Paintings for tax
Fifteen paintings by Winston Churchill have been given to the Treasury to pay inheritance tax on his widow’s $340,000 estate. The size of the tax has not been given. The paintings, together with the American flag that was flown at half-mast in Washington on the news of Sir Winston’s death, will go on display at Churchill’s former home at Chartwell in Kent. — London.
