Minister off work for while yet
PA Wellington *The Minister of Transport (Mr McLachlan) is not expected to return to work for at least another week, after his recent illness. “We don’t think he will be back at work this week,” said a spokesman in his office yesterda}'. -There was no indication yet when Mr McLachlan would return to work, he said;
Mr McLachlan has been away from his desk in Wellington for two weeks. He was discharged from hospital in Christchurch a week ago, after what were described by his office at the time as tests for a minor ailment.
The Minister of. Tourism (Mr Cooper) continues to act as Minister of Transport.
An editorial in this week’s “National Business Review” describes Mr McLachlan as
“a genial and gentle person — somebody who shows malice or ill will to nobody.” The editorial suggested the appointment of somebody such as. the Under-Secretary of Energy (Mr Brill) to help him, and said that it was un-
fortunate that Mr McLachlan had been put in a position where he had been sub-
jected to pressures and demands that appeared to be too great for him.
