Five Canty players in N.Z. basketball team

Five Canterbury players are included in the New Zealand men’s basketball team announced yesterday to play in the William Jones Cup in Taipei from May 10 to 21. The Hill brothers, Stan and John, and John Rademakers, Bert Knops and Wayne Marsh who recently moved to Christchurch from Dunedin, are the Canterbury players. Marsh and Knops are two of four new caps in

the team that has an average age of 22 and average height of 190.5 cm (Gft 3ins). David Mason (Hamilton), at 18, the youngest member of the team, is also a new cap as is David Hayman, of Palmerston North. Canterbury has further links' with the team. Two former provincial representatives, David Usmar, now in Nelson, and Stuart Fergusson (Auckland) were named in the 12.

The team is: Andrew Bennett (Otago); Fergusson (Auckland); Hayman (Palmerston North); Stan Hill, John Hill, Knops, Marsh, Rademakers (Canterbury); Jack Maere (New Plymouth); Mason (Hamilton); Warwick Meehl (Taupo); Usmar (Nelson). Steve McKean, of Panmure, will coach the team and it will be managed by Laurie Hack, of Wellington.
