Young golfers’ academy

Eight Canterbury professionals willxonduct an ambitious Professional Golf Association junior academy at Harewood next month. The course, from May 18 to May 23, is designed to give boys from 14 to 18 years old coaching and instruction in the fundamentals of golf, etiquette, sportsmanship, and integrity as it applies to golf. The professionals will be Colin Caldwell (Christchurch), Geoff Smart (Templeton), Tom Hanton (Harewood), Craig Richards (Kaiapoi), Bryan Watt (Timaru), Philip Bidwell (Ashburton), Geoff Pitman (Russley) and Peter Davis, who has been with Avondale but is about to take up a new appointment with Wai-, tikiri.

The course costs $l9O, which includes accommodation at the Ham Halls of Residence, all meals, transport, green fees and instruction. The students, divided into classes according to ability will have practical instruction, practice periods, competitive play, golf seminars and films.
