Archers gather at Ashburton

Two New Zealand representatives, Ann Shurrbck, from Ashburton, and Dave McAuley, from Christchurch, will lead the challenges for the South Island archery championships at the Ashburton Racecourse this week-end.

Tomorrow, the 30 contestants will practise. They will come from Christchurch, Dunedin, Gore, Timaru and Westport. Competitions will start on Saturday.

The target championship will run throughout that day and on Sunday 'the teams’ target championship will be shot during the morning. On Sunday afternoon the testing field shoot will be held which involves targets at differing distances from the archer. On Monday morning, the

clout shoot will be held. This will involve shooting at targets while lying on the ground. Presentation of trophies will follow at about noon.
