Useful trial by Sapling
Sapling, dismally beaten inthe Invitation Stakes at Addington last Saturday, hinted at an improved showing in the Easter Cup with a winning run in the feature trial at Addington yesterday. . Sapling shot straight to the lead and was never headed, easing down at the line to win by two lengths from Wee Win, with four lengths to Alec Peterson (third). Second to Wee Win in last year’s Easter Cup, Sapling paced the 2600 m in 3min 265, the final 800 m in 60s, the last 400 m in a comfortable 30.25. The eight-year-old did best in what amounted to, a sprint home, finishing strongly from midfield to beat Sam Roday.'by half a length, with a head to Fey Garrison (third). Race rival Scotch Tar did his cause no harm idling into fifth placing. Rosewood Garrison and Glenwright, rivals in the Easter Handicap on Saturday, dead-heated in the C3-C5 pacers trial. Rosewood Garrison made all the pace, sticking on gamely, with Glenwright finishing well from the trial. The pair .dashed over the last 800 m in 61.15, the final 400 m in 29.75. 'rush from midfield to win the |C2 pacers heat from Danum Girl and Balgove Boy in 3min 33.85, the final 800 m in 61.95. Ribbonwood Prince was the most impressive of the three maiden and Cl heat winners. The Waratah three-year-old caihe fom last at the 800 m, three wide mostly, and kept on strongly to beat Nugent Royal by a neck. Panair, and Shabby Tiger were the other heat winners, Shabby Tiger recording the smartest time, finishing strongly from jnidfield to win in 3min 30.65. Dayoma finished well from a handy position to win the second trotters trial by half a length from the fast-finish-ing Flying Bay.
