Bus trip leads to detention
PA Auckland A young man- .who drove off in an Auckland Regional Authority bus after attending a party has been sentenced to’ four months periodic detention and disqualified from driving for nine months. Henry’ Stephen Wharerau, aged 17, a clerk, of Glen Innes, appeared before Mr J. R. Aubin, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland after pleading guilty to unlawfully taking a Bedford bus', dangerous driving,’ driving 'a. bus without' an appropriate licence, . and having an excess blood-alcohol concentration. Mr D. R. Brown, for the defendant, said he had drunk a lot of liquor. He had. got into the bus with no intention of taking it, and had sat in it for a ; considerable; .time. He had' then decided to drive it, and had travelled successfully from Papatoetoe .to Auckland.At Auckland he had got into traffic, the police had become aware of him, and the dangerous driving had taken place. ; ■ (
