Smith wins ploughing event

Bruce Smith, of Lincoln qualified to plough in his fifth New Zealand championship when he won a qualifying event held by the Marlborough district of the Young Farmers’ Club on the property of Mr B. T. Davies at Kaituna. It means that when the New Zealand titles are held at Lincoln next month on the two days before the world contest, Smith will plough stubble ground on his own property and grassland oh his father’s property. Placings were: B. F. Smith, 151 points, I. Bill Gibbs (Rapaura), 148, 2; I. Winter (Swannanoa), 145, 3; G. Ham (Rapaura), 133, 4. Gibbs had the best feering and finish. There were eight contestants in the event.
