Killer 'bug' beaten
A young Christchurch woman has survived a proved case of legionnaires disease. W The case, the first proved one in Christchurch, was diagnosed about two weeks ago. The young woman has now returned to work little the worse for her experience,; according to the Deputy Medical Officer of Health in .Christchurch (Dr M. A. Briesemann).
Legionnaires disease was first diagnosed in 1976 when it killed 26 former American servicemen attending a Philadelphia convention. Doctors do not think the disease is passed on by human contact. It is believed to be an airborne disease: one theory is. that it may be transmitted through airconditioning units. ’■ ->■ •’ ’ •' ’’ --
