‘Time for rugby to act '
PA Blenheim New Zealand rugby needs South Africa, a former New Zealand Rugby Union and Marlborough union president, Mr Pat Dwyer, told the local union on Monday evening. Anyone who did not believe that only needed to “look at the balance sheet”
to see how many unions, were in the red, he said. | It was time for rugby to' act “before the little anti groups, who represent only a small proportion of the population, climb up on the bandwagon again.” The 1981 Springbok tour issue should be discussed now .while the Olympic boycott was being considered, said Mr Dwyer.
;. Athletes taking part in the Olympics would seem to Jhave the blessing of most i people, so he did not see why the majority would not > also support a rugby tour. The union agreed that its delegates to this months an- • nual meeting of the i N.Z.R.F.U. call for the union ■ council to discuss the , Springbok tour urgently and formulate a policy on it.
