Farm leader’s mission

The Dominion president . i of Federated Farmers (Mr A. ,F. Wright) will address ■ the agriculture committee ; of the European Parliament at Strasbourg Yon April 15. ....' ■ ■He has been invited te speak to the committee 'Ey its chairman.. (Sir. ...Henry. Plumb). ; The Minister of Agriculture . (Mr Maclntyre) has welcomed Mr Wright’s acceptance of the invitation. “It is vital that .New Zealand takes advantage of every opportunity to press its case .for continued access for its agricultural produce to European markets,” Mr MacIntyre said. “The value of farmer Organisations being able .to state their own case, independent of official Government representations is vitally important, and should add considerable weight to New Zealand’s case. “It is possible that Mr Wright may also be able to take up an invitation to meet the European Commissioner (Mr Olav Gundelach) issued when -Mr Gundelach was in New Zealand last year.” Mr Wright will combine , his European visit with an executive meeting of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers in Bangkok at the end at April, and will join a Federated Farmers delegation in Australia for further talks on trans-Tasman agricultural co-operation in the ifrst week of May. He will be accompanied throughout the tour by the federation’s chief executive (Mr R. McLagan).
