Annunzio Mantcvani. the i conductor whose lilting! string arrangements gained i him a world-wide reputation,' has died at the age of 74. He: died in a nursing home south■ of London after a long illness. Mantovani first becamej popular in the early 1950 s with his lulling melodies and cascading strings. His music became known as a stepping stone to the classics and his record “Charmaine” was one of the greatest ever sellers. — London.
