Mercedes to send team
Mercedes, the German lux-ury-car maker, has announced that it will send a three-car team to New Zealand for the Motogard Rally in September. The Mercedes 450 SLC coupes will be driven by the world champion, Bjorn Waldegaard (Sweden), last year’s Motogard winner, Hannu Mikkola (Finland) and the canny Andrew Cowan, of Scotland, twice a winner before in this country. The costly Mercedes effort shows that the German com-
■ pany is determined to. do well in this year’s world l manufacturers’ championship. Mercedes will be sup- ■ ported in New Zealand by the Cable Price Corporation. : A fourth division has been ■ added to the Motogard ■ Rally. It will now start in ; Nelson on Saturday, Septemi ber 13 and spend two days in the Nelson region before ’ heading for the West Coast ■ and Canterbury, ending- in Christchurch on the afteri noon of Wednesday, September 17.
