Change- of name but luck held

Karen Thornley was the toast of T.A.B.- treble pot hunters-at the North Canterbury Racing Club’s meeting yesterday. She rode the winners of two of tire three legs —- Beach Bird and Pennianne — and did not have a ride in the second leg, the Rangiora Karen started her day badly with a distant fifteenth in the third race. Her luck turned; sour again in the fourth' event, the Plough Handicap. Her two-year-old mount was Galway, which was having his second start, and bucked leaving the, starting gate, bumping- Karen- to the ground. But the turning in the lane came at her third attempt, and she emerged from the day with a superior record to her husband. Maurice, to whom she was married on Saturday.

Success eluded ’Maurice Thornley on yesterday’s ■ programmea Pennianne completed a. treble worth’ $662.60 when she got up for a head victory in the Oxford Hadicap. Another Story enlivened a good finish by making a late arrival for third half a length back.-

Pennianne- is • trained at Riccarton by John Bourne for Mrs J. R. Austin and! Messrs N> G. A. and R. A. Young. She is by Ribotlight from Caplin, and is a close relation of Ribaldo- and other good winners in the Austin colours.
