Stakes trial for Azan at Paeroa today

Special correspondent Auckland Azan has - the opportunity of a further good preliminary to the Diana Stakes at Ellerslie when she contests the 2200 m Arney Handicap at Te Aroha today. Last time at Te Aroha Azan won over 2200 m in the Pohlen Memorial Cup, by only half a head but quite impressively all the same. Azan has the topweight of 57kg but her expected rider is again the apprentice C. M. Nolan, who is entitled to claim 3kg. ' Darling Order, Pirate King, Biddybabe and Truleigh are among the horses Azan will have to beat. All four should run well, their latest form taken as a guide. The Arney Handicap will be the first leg of the T.A.B. double. The second leg, the Tirohia Handicap, seems more open although Tasman Crossing, an improved three-year-old, and two others in the same age group, Pacific Pride and Crythen, seem better prospects than most.
