Queensland wins
NZPA Brisbane 7 The new Queensland captain, Paul McLean, steered his rugby side to a clear-cup, 24-10 victory over the New Zealand visitors, Hawke’s Bay, at Ballymore Park, Brisbane yesterday. It was a match of mixed fortune for McLean, the Queensland veteran of 67 matches. McLean, the state team’s most prolific scorer with 732 points up in only seven seasons, missed all his five attempts at goal in
the first half of this: match, which could have given ■ Queensland a better start. However, Queensland performed creditably for its win, particularly.in the second half when McLean atoned by kicking 12 points. Scorers. — Queensland: Tom Barker two tries, Peter Grigg try, Peter McLean .try; Paul McLean two penalties and one conversion. Hawke’s Bay:: Ken Taylor a try, Mark Slsam one field goal and one penalty.
