Haast closed
Torrential rain and slips yesterday closed State Highway 6 near the Gates of . Haast Bridge in South Westland
Repair crews were working to clear the slips during most of yesterday, but the road was not expected to be open before this afternoon, according to the Automobile Association.
A spokesman said the
worst damage had been caused by a big slip on the Haast township side of the bridge. The same stretch of road has been closed by slips several times in the last few months.
A north-westerly front brought heavy rain to most of the West Coast yesterday but none of the passes had been closed last evening.
