Jockeys ride at trials
Special correspondent Wanganui Jockeys agreed to ride in the qualifying events for maiden gallopers at the Marton barrier trials on Thursday. Earlier the riders had threatened to withdraw their services unless a $l5 fee was paid to the jockeys in these particular events. During the Marton programme representatives of the Jockeys Association and a Wanganui racing district sub-committee discussed the matter and the riders agreed to participate without payment.
“We had an amicable discussion,” the Wanganui district committee secretary, Mr lan Boyland, said after the meeting. The ‘New Zealand Racing Conference sub-committee dealing with barrier trials reorganisation has agreed to meet promptly to discuss payments for riders in quali-. fying events.
