Top ad. prize to multinational
PA Wellington The Wellington office of the international advertising agency, Ogilvy and Mather,- has won thechairman’s award in the inaugural Independent Newspapers, Ltd, Newspaper Advertisement of the Year Awards. The awards for 1979 were presented by the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) at a special function in Wellington. Ogilvy and • Mather’s entry in the agricultural and "horticultural advertising section, for their client, Shell Chemicals New Zealand. Ltd. won its section and the chairman’s award, which carries with it the invitation to send a member of the agency’s creative staff to the renowned Chicago Art Directors Workshop.;
The I.N.L. awards attracted more than 420 entries from 62 advertising agency offices in New Zealand. Seven awards, in addition to the premier award, were made, with 42 entries gaining exhibit status. The judging panel comprised seven top New Zealand creative directors. Its chairman was Mr Bryce Courtenay, managing, director of a Sydney agency. “We now see the birth of a responsible award
system in New Zealand in the form of the I.N.L. awards for effective advertising,” said Mr Courtenay. “They are not a minute too soon. Television, the glamorous medium, has captured the hearts and minds of creative people, many of whom, approach the print medium with a sense of white hot apathy. Or so it was until recently in Australia, where print is beginping to fight back.” The'winners were: ■ '■ Chairman’s award and agricultural and horticultural advertising award: Agency: Ogilvy and Mather (New Zealand), Ltd, Wellington; client: Shell Chemicals, New Zealand, Ltd. ■

Food, drink, tobacco products advertising: Agency: D’Arcy-MacManus and Masius, Ltd, Wellington; client: Capital Life Assurance, Ltd. Campaigsn advertising: Agency: D’Arcy-MacManus and Masius; client: R. A. Bell-Booth and Company, Ltd.
