General foresca-t: An anti-cyclone centred northeast of the North Island and an associated ridge of high pressure between New Zealand and the Chatham Islands are both moving eastwards. A slow-moving frontal zone lying west to east across central New Zealand is accompanied by areas of rain. A depression in the Tasman Sea west of central New Zealand is expected to move south-east to be passing across the northern parts of the South Island today. The cold front of

this system should pass across much of the North Island by the afternoon, accompanied by a belt of rain and following by scattered showers in most western areas.
