No consolation N.Z. pacers on Final night

By G. K. YULE The New Zealand horses performed ingloriously in the two Inter-Dominion consolation races at Harold Park last evening. At no stage did they look likely to return a dividend. The first event was won by the South Australian eightJ rear-old, Single Again, which ed throughout and held off Gay Hondo (handy all the way) by a neck, with two metres to the favourite, Brad Adios, which did well after breaking and losing 50m at the start.

Arunga Hanover, Warren Chief and Bad Luck were next, with Canis Minor a dis-

appointing ninth after being well back all the way.

Single Again is raced by Mr Bill Fermes, aged 91, who lives about 100 km outside Adelaide. CAMERON PRAISED Bad Luck’s driver, Bob Cameron, was brought before the stewards after the race to explain the difficult drive he had behind his horse. The chairman of stewards, Mr Kevin Pascoe, congratulated Cameron on his skilled horsemanship in avoiding a serious accident which seemed likely when the horse was hanging in badly on the bend after about 600 m.

The West Australian horse, High Moore, came fast over the final stages. of the second consolation to catch Chime Bay in the last few strides and beat him by a metre and a half. Dual Brigade, another long shot, was three and a half metres away third, just ahead of Cunning Lad and the fast finishing Katy’s Command. Katy’s Command began well but then settled towards the rear of the field. She received a rocky run
