C.S.U. seek ‘quick full settlement’
PA’ Wellington The campaign for an interim wage adjustment for public servants will be abandoned by the Combined State Unions in favour of negotiations for a “quick, full settlement.” The full ■ settlement to be sought would be in the vicinity of the 10.4 per cent interim adjustment declined by the Government on Monday, said the C.S.U.’s secretary (Mr B. Tucker). A decision on the actual figure to be proposed had not, however, been made, Mr Tucker said. The C.S.U. executive con-
sidered the interim adjustment application at some length yesterday morning, and decided to leave off pressing for it and to turn attention to the possibility of getting a full settlement quickly, Mr Tucker said. “That was decided so that members would not have to wait until October or November to get the increases given to the private sector last October,” he said. He would give immediate attention to the form and content of the proposal the C.S.U. would put to the Government, Mr Tucker said.
