Epidemic subsides
PA Auckland] The worst of the epidemic of dengue fever on Niue Island is over, says a Niue Health Department spokesman. At least 600 of the 3800 islanders have been stricken with the debilitating fever. A team of two doctors and two nurses from Auckland Hospital and two world Health Organisation doctors from Suva were sent to help fight the epidemic.. The Auckland team is. due back next week. . • Niue’s Director of Health] (Dr H. Nemaia) said yesterday that the number, of new cases had dropped to 18. Four persons had died from the fever. > . All Government ■ departments and shops were closed for several days during’the height of the epidemic.
