Tui’s Lass retired to stud

Special correspondent Dunedin Tui’s Lass has been retired to stud and will be mated with Imposing in the spring Tui’s Lass injured the suspensory ligament of her near foreleg during the Invercargill Cup on January 5. The winner of the New Zealand St Leger last season and run-npr-up in the NZ Oaks, Tui’s Lass amassed stake earnings of $59,190 for her Alexandra owners, Jack and Alistair McArthur, who had her in the North Taieri stable of Stan McKay. The daughter of Gate. Keeper and Tuiway had eight Wins, five seconds, four thirds and five fourths from 29 starts. She won from three starts as a 2-year-old and she won the Broadlands Filly of the Year award last season when,

her wins included the Newmans. Stakes at Nelson, the Princess Mellay stakes at Gore, the Geraldine Challenge Stakes and the Show Gate Stakes at Washdyke.

The McArthurs are also breeding from Loma Lass, a half sister by Lomond to Tui’s Lass. Loma Lass, the winner of nine races including the James Hazlett Stakes at Wingatui is in foal to Noble Bijou. Plans to bring her back into work were not continued when she returned a positive test' recently. It is intended to mate Tui’s 'Lass with Imposing again [next year. Imposing, winner of last year’s Stradbroke iHandicap, the Epsom Handicap, George Main Stakes and 'Hill ( Stakes, will stand his first season at stud in the spring at the Ra Ora Stud, Auckland.
