Easter folk
The Canterbury Folk Festival is to be held at Diamond Harbour this Easter, a traditional gathering for “folkies” throughout New Zealand. The festival will again be held on the domain at Diamond Harbour and the historic Godley House will also be used. The house is celebrating its centenary this year and as it features a bar who knows what might happen. Seriously, though it also has a dining room, and those hunting food supplements such as Easter eggs and hot-cross buns there is a small dairy grocer’s shop nearby ... This year’s special guest is Australian Warren Fahey, folklorist, performer, and record producer, whose record company “Larrikin Records,” specialises in folk sound across the Tasman. There is also to be a group of musicians, the Larrikins, performing under the guidance of “head larrikin” Fahey.
Registration for the festival was $6.50, but since this expired yesterday, late registrations cost $B. Those wishing to register may try writing to the Canterbury Folk Festival, P.O. Box 8246, Christchurch, with their remittance.
Inflation is the devil of us all, and it has pushed the cost of food for the festival up as well. The menu remains basically the same, and the usual high standard will be maintained, reads the second festival newsletter.
