Charge over baby
PA Wanganui A woman, aged 31, has been charged with unlawfully abandoning a baby, aged one day, at the Wanganui railway station earlier this month.
The woman appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Wanganui yesterday before Messrs A. Hird and S. D. Hay, Justices of the Peace. The charge resulted from the discovery of the babygirl in the railway station toilets on March 13. The baby is now in the care of the Wanganui Base Hospital and has unofficially been named Olivia Cass by the staff. Detective Senior-Sergeant R. L. Butler successfully sought a remand to March 31. The woman was charged with unlawfully abandoning a child under the age of six. She was remanded on bail of $2OO.
