Lighthouse move bid approved
A proposal Io move the Akaroa Heads lighthouse to Cemetery Point, south of Fishermen’s Slip, has been approved by the Akaroa County Council. The group responsible for the proposal, the Lighthouse Preservation Society, will have to meet several conditions required by the council. Among these are the requirement that a registered engineer investigate the proposal and prepare plans for the foundations of the lighthouse on the new site. The society will also have to convince the council that it has the funds and backing to erect and fully restore the lighthouse on the new site before it can dismantle and shift it from the old site.
