Cattle values firm by $10

Cattle values made further advances at the weekly Addington market yesterday. Although the ’ export schedule did not increase last Friday, price levels for most types of prime cattie lifted by up to SlO a head. Buyers were paying up to. and sometimes over, 150 c a kg for prime beef. The sheep sale was excellent, with lambs and twotooths remaining firm, and old ewes and wethers improving slightly. Prime lambs The prime lamb market showed great strength. The varding increased from 477 last week to 1705, but the demand was strong enough to ensure recent values remained unaltered. A number of shorn lambs ■ have started to appear and these are selling well. Values were:— Large iambs: $19.90 to $22.30 with odd sales to $23. ; Medium lambs: $17.90 to $19.60. Light lambs; down to $15.10.

Values for prime cattle continued to improve, although there was no change in the exporters’ schedule announced last Friday. There was an especially strong demand for lighter steers and heifers and the export trade maintained interest in heavy steers.
