Conference on TV coverage

The concern of the three Addington clubs regarding what they claim is a paucity lof .television coverage of their night trotting meetings was somewhat premature, said the chief executive officer of the Trotting Conference (Mr John Rowley) in a statement issued yesterday. Negotiations between the conference and Television New Zealand were still proceeding. “Their concern was based on a report from Auckland which had been quoted out of context to the extent that the seven races under consideration are still subject to confirmation as live coverage is dependent on the availability of equipment and programme time. “As prime viewing time is being made available for the projected telecast, any feature race would need to carry a substantial stake and attract national interest. The only event which appears to fulfil ■ those requirements during the balance of the season at Addington Raceway is the New Zealand Oaks on Anzac Day. This cannot be covered as Television New Zealand has no plans for live sport that day,” said Mr Rowley. “The conference was appreciative of the changed attitude of Television New Zealand towards the live coverage of night trotting and the Auckland and Christchurch 'dubs would be given equal consideration when negotiations for th? 1980-81 season were begun,” he added.
