Appeal for cyclists
Sir, — In reply to J. V, Dean’s letter (February 25) I should like to ask her to get the facts in perspective. How many motorists indicate their intention of changing lanes? Admittedly they look in their rear-vision mirrors for other cars, but ignore bicycles. Does Miss Dean not realise that the 10speed racing cycles, seen so often these days, are capable of travelling as fast as cars; at least they would be if motorists kept to the speed limits. I have not seen a great number of cyclists disobeying traffic signals, either. The cyclist who ig-
nores traffic rules is putting only himself in danger, a motorist jeopardises other lives. I often wonder at my sanity trying to compete with ignorant motorists on our city streets, but at least I am doing my bit towards fuel conservation, — Yours, KAYE LATHAM. February 25, 1980.
