Strike at girls school

PA , Hastings Twenty-two domestic staff at Woodford House, a private girls’ boarding school in Havelock North, will strike today. The old-established school has 215 boarders from throughout New Zealand, and 25 day pupils. The decision by the domestic staff to take direct action was voted on during a meeting yesterday morning. The secretary of the Boarding Schools Domestic Union Workers (Mrs E. Moir), said that staff at the school had been dissatisfied since the Woodford House board decided to cut staff working hours, after a new national award negotiated during the Christmas holiday period.
