General forecast: The cold front and its associated band of rain should move off the North Island this morning. ' The cooler west to south-west flow with scattered showers which covers the rest of New Zealand should then become general. However, eastern districts of the Ndrth Island will be shel-

tered- from showers by the ranges in the west. A southwest wind change may spread up the east coast of the South Island to reach Cook Strait late in the day.. Christchurch, Ashburton, Timaru: Mainly fair. Blenheim: Fair. Nelson: Showers. Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika: Showers.
