Timely Robin in line for success at Addington

By

G. K. YULE

Timely Robin could break through for an overdue first win for the season in the Mona Vale Handicap at Addington Raceway tomorrow' evening. He threw 7 out the promise of an early victory when he finished fifth, some five lengths from Lord Module, in the New Brighton Cup on February 16.

In that race he recorded about 4min 10.2 s for the 3200 m. He will start from 10m in tomorrow’s race, but there will be a big drop in class; with none of the four to finish in front of him at the New Brighton meeting being included. Possibly the hardest for him to beat will- be the speedy and consistent Philippa Frost, one of the best mares racing in the intermediate classes this season. She had to bow to Merry Chase over 2600 m on February 16 when she gave the winner a start of 10m. Philippa Frost looks favourably placed on the front and should add to her fine record.

Merry Chase meets Philippa Frost on 10m less favourable terms than when she beat her by a neck. Merry Chase is another much-improved pacer quite capable of bridging the rise in the class of the opposition she will meet in this field.

Bronze Queen and Wing Commander should be the pick of the others on the front, although a bold run from Crossfire will not surprise. - - Flora Dor is fresh from a victory over Tempest Tiger at< the recent Invercargill meeting. She must be a leading contender after that win and even from 10m her chances look better than average. Be Sly, too, could surprise. He went quite a respectable race for seventh to Locarno over one mile at Washdyke on Saturday and will not find the opposition so formidable this time. The horses on 20m, and 30m are capable of adding interest to the finish, Sun Seeker appealing most after his placing at Washdyke. Superior Chance, Sepoti and Steady Way form a likely trio in the second leg of the double, the Christchurch Stakes, a race which is -also- the final leg of the T.A.B. treble and a T.A.B. quinella race.
