Show-jump title to T.N.T.

Superb jumping from the New Zealand bred, bu-t Australian owned and ' ridden T.N.T., gave him the Wills New Zealand Horse of the Year show jumping championship at Ashburton at the week-end.

The first round, jumped over a testing table A course,- ending with a tough treble in front of the well filled grands-tand, produced only two clear rounds, one from the North Island team member, Tom Cruse riding the thoroughbred Ho, and T.N.T., capably ridden by 19-year-old Mare’e Gordon from New South Wales. Six horses had four faults and one seven, leaving all seven with a chance in the second round, a high puissance course.

Ho, first to go, collected eight faults. The Australian Red Cedar, ridden by ihe Olympic rider, John Fahey, sitting on a four fault first round, then jumper’ an exciting clear, to be in a; good position. Another exciting clear came from the young Hawke’s Bay rider, Sue Thompson, riding. Big Deal, for seven faults over all. Tension was high for T.N.T.’s round. Only recently upgraded, this was a tough competition for this Archimedes thoroughbred which was sold to Australia at the Trentham sales. Presenting a picture of calmness and quality, this outstanding young' combination jumped a beautiful winning clear round. Fahey, jumped again on

e Bonanza to -try for equai - second place but another a four faults placed him equal 5 fourth with Ho, and his fele low Australian Blue Jinx - ridden by Janelle Waters. i Second place went to Red Cedar, with Big Deal third. i In the Pony of the Year Grand Prix, Ruth Gray on i Rufus (Wellington) and Tre--1 vor Collins on Naireena i (Southland), jumped double ! clear rounds to have a jump i off.against the clock. ?
