Agreement over standards
Talks in Christchurch recently have paved the way for the agreement over technical requirements affecting trade between Australia and New Zealand. The directors and staff of the Standards Associations of the two countries said that the principle of identical standards was agreed to and practical aspects examined. The talks identified areas in which standards could be made uniform immediately.
One specification for the making of a new type of plastic pipe was already being decided.
The two associations had still to work out detailed guidelines with manufacturers in Australia and New Zealand. The agreement on standards would allow manufacturers in both countries to combine domestic production runs with those for export across the Tasman.
