Power hopes dashed
Mr Muldoon last evening dashed South Island electricity consumers’ hopes for a domestic tariff concession.
Addressing the Rotary conference Mr Muldoon said that a concessional tar-, iff had been introduced for big new electricity-inten-sive industries to encourage the productive use of surplus generating capacity in the South Island. Then, turning to the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay), he said: “The reason for this move Mr Mayor, is to get more external funds, and not to allow people to leave their heaters no longer. It is not going to be for dometsic consumers —. I’m sorry.”
