The position carries responsibiiities for the supervision, running and development of the Respiratory Laboratory. Laboratory procedures include spirometry, the assessment of pulmonary gas exchange by various techniques, blood gas analysis, body plethysmography and exercise testing. Rapid gas analysis with a mass spectrometer is performed and a PDPII/40 computer has been installed with plans for on-line analyses, the work of the Respira-forv Laboratory is integrated with that of the Department of Medicine of the Wellington Clinical School. Salary and conditions of appointment are in accordance with the N.Z. Hospital Service Determination for Laboratory Workers. The commencing salary will be determined v y. the Laboratory Officers’ Salaries Grading Committee on the basis of qualifications and rele v -nt experience.
